Daily
life with a Black Russian Terrier

At
the following sites I have documented various situations
with our “blacks”. Here I would like to present the
BRT’s character and show you the possibilities a
BRT-owner has to train his dog. For this reason I have
to tell you something beforehand:
It
was always clear for us, that, if we take a dog, this
dog have to be shaped at all daily-situations and
overall this dog must have the possibility to be shaped
(!). It’s
out of question that certain races are only suitable for
certain situations. Because of this reason we decided us
(see also at “about us”) after a long consideration
in favor of the Black Russian Terrier. I wanted to own a
dog which has some kind of “intelligence” and
therefore is receptible. Furthermore it should show
relatedness to family or certain “dependence”. This
result in our theme:
The
daily routine with a BRT
We
put BIG BIG emphasis on education. This circumstance has
several reasons as listed below:
Because
of Bastian working very long on weekdays (sometimes even
on weekend) and therefore being outside the home, it
must be possible for me, as a woman, to handle all dogs
alone without flying after them on the leash or being
knocked down by them. The worst case would be if I had
to go for walkies with every dog alone, separate from
the others. On the one hand I would never have such lot
of time and on the other hand I own several dogs,
because I want them to play with each other and not to
go for various times for a walk. These are the reasons
why my BRT’s have to master base-commands blindfolded
and implement them with pleasure. More to this theme you
can read here:

In
our surroundings are many children meaning our BRTs must
have a kind of understanding that they must act tenderer,
more careful and calmer with these “little humans”
then with adults. Therefore all our dogs had contact
with children from an early age and so I only can
confirm, what many breeders say:
A BRT is absolutely fond of children. You can
read more about it here:

The
next thing I want to bring up is that Bastian and I are
very young. This means that we both don’t know where
our ways are going to lead us in future. Because of a
Black Terrier could easily be 10 years old, I want to
have all daily-situations trained with them without them
being afraid or withdrawn of new situations or things.
Hereto belong dogshows with thousands of dogs around us
as well as subway, bus, train and
escalator-riding and even visiting fairs etc. to show
them as much as possible from the world and to keep our
dogs open to all new, that could come up to them. More

Because
the BRT is a working-dog as well, we want to give him
what he needs: his successes and popularity from his
owners. For a well-educated Black Terrier there is
nothing better as a praise coming deep from heart and
being spoken with love and proud in the voice.
My dogs love to work (for example suborder, track
and protective service) but also certain training for
everyday life from the training of a seeing-eye dog or a
rescue dog (in water):
